Eye Books author, Alastair Humphreys‘ inspirational book Ten Lessons from the Road is set to come out in Greek from the publishers Dioptra. 10 Lessons from the Road

We tend to strive for what we know we can achieve. What’s the point of that? Alastair learnt a thing or two as he cycled around the world. He learnt that big achievements come from big dreams, that they often start with big talk, and they guarantee some really big scares along the way. He also learnt that you only learn how far you can go by going too far.

Serial adventurer, he’s currently walking around the M25 in the worst winter conditions in 50 years, and Eye Books’ author Alastair Humphreys will be talking at the Adventure Show at the end of this month, Sunday 31 January 2010.

Described as “The first great adventure of the 21st Century” by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Alastair will be talking about his epic circumnavigation of the world by bike recounted in his two books: Moods of Future Joys and Thunder & Sunshine. Around the world by bike. By Alistair Humphreys, Adventurer

Aged 24 Alastair Humphreys left England to cycle round the world. His journey along the length of the Earth’s three great land masses [Africa, the Americas, and Eurasia] took more than 4 years to complete. He has written three books about his adventure.

The Shell Chester Literature Festival is in its 21st year, and they have invited one of our authors, the fantastic Alastair Humphreys, to give a talk. As well as being the author of three books, Al is a talented speaker, with the President of the Royal Geographical Society saying, “with the possible exception of Sir David Attenborough, that was the best lecture, and the longest applause that I have heard in the past 15 years.”

EyeCycle’s very own Rob Ainsley has launched a new blog. In his announcement of its launch he wrote:

“Cycling in London has more than doubled in the last ten years – but looking at blogs and websites, you would hardly know it.

So I thought it was about time that someone started a cycling blog that was genuinely witty and fun to read; well illustrated; well informed; bang up to the minute with the issues; and, most important, refreshed every single day, giving you that regular office fix.

And who knows, one day that might happen. Instead, in the meantime, there’s my new blog ‘Real cycling’:

Alastair Humphreys, author of Moods of Future Joys and Thunder and Sunshine, is embarking on a new expedition. SOUTH will be the longest unsupported polar journey in history, with Alastair and his friend Ben Saunders making the first return journey to the South pole on foot. This extraordinary and inspirational pair have been training for over four years in order to be able to face the extreme conditions they will have to survive.
